The history of Kool-Aid started in 1920 when Edwin Perkins, the inventor, came up with Fruit Smack.

Kool-Aid, a powder that when mixed with water makes a delicious, fruity drink, originated from Fruit Smack. Fruit Smack is Edwin’s most popular product. Despite that fact, there were too many issues with shipping. Fruit Smack was stored in glass bottles, which tended to break or leak easily. Edwin decided he needed to do something about it. He experimented with different solutions, and finally found a way. He figured out that he could take the flavoring out of fruit smack and turn it into a powder. He called this Kool Aid.

Kool-Aid definitely had an impact on society when it was invented. It was loved by many children for the flavor and convenience.
