She could have been shot, killed, or even captured by the British Army. She struggled loading her husband’s cannon but did not quit because she knew that it would help with the war effort. In doing this, she helped the Colonists to achieve victory that day. This victory along with the realization that the colonists were well organized, caused the British to retreat during the night. After the battle was over, General George Washington awarded Molly with the rank of Sergeant in the Continental Army for her bravery during the fighting. No one complained about the rank she was given because she had rightfully earned it through her courage and determination.
