The Great Gatsby was founded in the 1920’s. The 1920’s may be known for the Roaring 20’s and the Jazz age, but behind the scenes of all of the excitement and shows were the corruption of the economy and the law. The police would frequently be bribed to not expose and engage criminals. The percentage of law enforcement and patrolling officers doing their job was 80 percent less than the usual percentage of 14, which was already at an all-time low. The act of prohibition lasted from 1920 until 1933 when the 18th amendment was passed to illegalize ownership, transportation, creation, and sales of alcoholic products.
