According to Organized Crime 1930, Ralph Capone’s successor was younger brother Al “Scarface” Capone, who was also named public enemy number one by the Chicago Crime Commission and was one of the most well-known most violent gangster in American history. Capone’s empire was built on bootlegging liquor, prostitution and illegal gambling, pulling in 100 million dollars a year. He murdered many people via contract and even killed many people himself (organized crime 1930). Al Capone bribed many judges, police officers and many other public figures. He especially had then Mayor William “Big Will” Thomas on his payroll during the both terms he served from 1917 to 1923 and 1927 to 1931(organized crime 1930).
