Raymond Dredford Williams Jr. was born July 13, 1955 in San Rafael, California. He was the eldest child and son of Raymond Dredford Williams Sr. and Gwendolyn Marie Williams.
Raymond attended Tamalpais High School in Mill Valley, California, where he excelled in basketball during his tenure at Tam. He graduated in 1973, and attended College of Marin in Kentfield, California, where he continued to compete in basketball. Later, he carried on his passion for basketball competing in community leagues. He was an avid basketball, baseball, and football fan. His favorite teams were the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Francisco Giants and 49ers.
