Black Loyalists, like Richard Pierpoint, were seen using a triangular bayonet. A triangular bayonet was a weapon used during the Revolutionary War. In order to be free from slavery, numerous Black Loyalists were offered freedom from Sir Henry Clinton in exchange for supporting the British during the Revolutionary War. An example of a Black Loyalist who participated in this war was Richard Pierpoint. Richard Pierpoint used a triangular bayonet alongside the British in hopes he would finally find freedom. In particular, these bayonets were used between 1775-1783, which is also the duration of the Revolutionary War. Unfortunately, once the British had lost the war and the Treaty of Paris, they had retreated, leaving a massive amount of Black Loyalists
