How Slavery Affects America and the Whole World.

Black people still get treated differently in the country to this day. How pervasive was slavery in the southern states? Less than 25 percent of people owned slaves in the southern states, and less than 5 percent of the United States population owned slaves. With such a tiny percentage it was still felt all over the country as cruel and ignorant. Slavery has a big impact and even today, people can see its effect on the country. People are still very racist. The whole Southern economy was built on slavery, it was the foundation. Black people are still treated very poorly and, in a report by the UN, Secretary General Antonio Guterres states that “slavery has led to people of African descent being relegated to the poorest and most marginalized sections of society” (Guterres). There are ways to advocate for justice because African Americans are still being oppressed and harmed. Racism was pervasive throughout the South and in the years since the Civil War. There have been many ways that racism has changed. Black people now have the same rights as white people and they are allowed to do what they want, just like any other citizen of the US. There have been many efforts to eradicate racism in the United States and around the world, but that is an unrealistic goal because there will always be racism; there are always going to be people treated differently. Racism is all the same, by this I mean racism isn't just targeted at one race or another, racism affects everybody, white people, black people, asian people, chinese people. Racism will always be present in the world. Even though racism is so big, it still shouldn't even be a thing. All people can do is keep
