To understand how Song China became so influential in modern day times we must first understand how the dynasty came to be. It was split into two time frames called the Northern Song which began in the year 960 and ended in 1127 after it was invaded. The Southern Song was then started in 1127 and ended in 1279. After the fall of the Tang Dynasty more than fifty years of chaos ensued. That was until General Zhao Kuangyin created the Song Dynasty. He took the name of Taizu.
