During the Edo period the Shogun ruled the country, and their hierarchy was very precise and strict. Just like the Aztecs the Japanese were born into their social class, and had to do that job even if they liked it or not. When emperor Meiji took over the hierarchy became less intense. Many people liked it the way the hierarchy was during the Edo period, and many people liked it the way it was in the Meiji period.
