The dust bowl affected many individuals in the southern plains. On April 14th, 1935, black dust clouds covered the southern plains due to excessive farming. This changed the lives of many because there was so much dust that attics caved in. A combination of dust and dirt piled into the drifts. The dust bowl was a huge black storm of dust that impacted lots of lives.

Families struggled with keeping the dust out of their day-to-day lives. Many families left the southern plains because of the dust storms. Those who don't leave find ways to keep dust out of their homes. Wet sheets will be hung up to catch and collect dust. To keep dust off of dishes, plates were flipped until it was time to eat.
