Some people wonder how America got to where it is today. While there are a myriad of reasons to choose from, the most important thing that happened to America in terms of expansion and progress was the Industrial Revolution. The first thing that really paved the way for America to even have an Industrial Revolution was the Embargo Act of 1807. So, what effect did the Embargo Act have on America’s Industrial Revolution? The Embargo Act prohibited American merchant ships from leaving for foreign ports and prohibited foreign vessels from carrying American goods out of American ports. This act was created hoping to hurt the French and British economy. But it only devastated the American economy, as the French and British were major trading partners.
