Their victories promised hope and their growth motivated even bigger movements. Each fight was a challenge but that did not stop them from pushing forward to put an end to racial discrimination and unequal opportunities for African Americans. They used the legal system to overturn policies that were systematically oppressing African Americans. Their victories got bigger each time as they eventually helped end segregation which lead to the Civil Rights Movement. In 1964 with the emergence of other civil rights organizations, the NAACP helped in passing a legislation that outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. They built a foundation beginning in 1909 to fight against oppression and they are still going strong today. I do have to admit that before taking this class I did not understand a lot of issues that surround the African American community, but this has opened my eyes to the struggles they went through. The lynching’s, riots, segregation, and language that was used against them is very difficult to watch, but it also very important to watch so we can educate people.
