Pumpkins were originally found growing along the banks of rivers and creeks in Central America, and Mexico between 5500 and 7000 B.C. They are part of the Cucurbita family, along with squash, gourds, melons, cucumber, and zucchini. Pumpkins were not originally orange and round. They were multiple colours such as yellow, and green, and were odd shapes and sizes. The seeds were perfect for early explorers to bring back to their home countries.
Where it’s grown:
Pumpkins are grown all around the world, in every continent except for the Antarctic. They have to be grown in a warm climate, where the soil is warm, usually during the summer and fall. Closer to the equator is an easier place for these to grow because it is warmer for a longer period of time, making it possible for the pumpkins to grow all year round in certain places such as Mexico.

A good place to put them is under a deck, or on the north/south side if the house, inside is too warm for them to be kept. It is best to not be kept on carpet because it causes the bottom to soften and rot quicker, same as when they are placed on a wooden table. It is best to place them on a piece of cloth, or cardboard.
