In the early 1800's a man named Theodore Judah created the Central Pacific Railroad and on one of his many expeditions found a way to cross over the Nevada Mountains. His journey started in California somewhere near San Francisco and went east toward Nevada. It continued through Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, a small part of Colorado and back across the east to Iowa.

It took hundreds of men to build it. It was hot and dry and food supplies were sometimes low. Each man was proud to work on the great new railroad.

During the first stages of the plan a man named Samuel Curtis presented the first bill to get funding from the government to build the railroad. He was turned down. Soon it was sent again and this time they approved it. It was signed
