Mrs. King could have backed away from the platform her husband had created for fear of her childrens' safety or even her own life, but instead she stepped up. Just days after his death, King constructed her speech from her husbands notes and spoke at a peace rally in New York. She founded the Martain Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change after no one was willing to fill the leadership role her husband had vacated.
