Thomas Jefferson was born in 1743 and died in 1826 on the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. He was the third president of the United States of America. After his presidency in the United States, Jefferson served as the United States minister to France as well as the secretary of state. During the years of 1796, he served as vice president under John Adams. Before his fame as president, Jefferson graduated from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. During his years of college, he studied law and would play violin for hours upon hours each day. After college, he became a lawyer and was a member of colonial Virginia's House of Burgesses. When Columbus arrived on the new land, he brought many goods with him from the Old World. The Old World and New World exchanged ideas, people, goods, and cultures with each other. Many items that were brought from the Old World were rice, sugar, cattle, wheat, and different diseases like measles and smallpox. The indigenous people that were already in the Americas were heavily affected by the diseases that were brought from the Old World. Many indigenous people died due to not having any immunity to the diseases, around 80 to 95 percent of indigenous people died within the first 100 to 150 years after Columbus’s arrival. With the Old World bringing goods to the New World, the New World also sent back some goods for the people in the Old World. The products that were exchanged with the Old World were corn, potatoes, tobacco, and cocoa. With all the innovations of new products in the Old and New World, a rise of agriculture took place. The historical significance of the Columbian Exchange is that new ideas and innovations were brought to the United States. The exchanges made from the Old World to the New World made the whole world begin trading and exchanging ideas and goods. The impact the Columbian Exchange left on the world changed for the better by having a huge surplus of diverse agricultural products in the New and Old World. Sadly for the indigenous people, their population was overthrown by Columbus and his crew. My opinion on the Columbian Exchange is that it was a huge event that happened in our history that forever shaped America and the soil we live on
