William Faulkner was born in September 25, 1897 in New Albany Mississippi. However he later died on July 6,1962 on Byhalia Mississippi. “ William Faulkner a major American twentieth century author, wrote historical novels portraying the decline and decay of the upper crust of southern society.The imaginative power and the psychological depth of his works ranks him as one of america's greatest novelists” (“William Faulkner Biography”). This is illustrated when the website "Great Authors: William Faulkner” points out that “William Faulkner, revered modernist writer, historian and sociologist, is known for capturing the raw beauty of the rural south, and its dark complexity. While his sprawling verse and habit of knotting together past, present , and future has overwhelmed many critics , others have responded to the demands of his writing.” William Faulkner is a very creative author because of the gothic themes used in his stories especially in “A Rose for Emily” when he wrote “Carved in a pillow was the indentation of a head. I felt it was gothic and scary because I can imagine the acid in the nostrils, also the long strand of grey hair laying there already dead with another person already dead.
