Due to the failure of the Schlieffen plan, Germany was greatly delayed and its troops depleted, which gave time for other allied countries to set up their defenses, causing the war to draw it longer. Shortly after the Schlieffen plan, the war transformed into trench warfare, moving away from the traditional methods of infantry and cavalry. Trench warfare caused the war to become both longer and more deadly; longer because defensives techniques were much safer than offensive techniques. The trenches included many soldiers with armed machine guns and grenades, which made it super deadly for the other side to progress, also, if an opposite side was to secure a victory over the trenches, they would only win a few kilometers and in-turn the opposite site would retreat, rebuild the trenches and repeat the same process over again, and that caused millions of lives. Another reason for why the war was lengthy is the fact that both the allied forces and the German army employed the use of strategies that would wear down their enemies both physically and psychologically, which included bombing their enemy, gassing their enemy, and constantly attacking them, this in-turn meant that the side who withstood the damage longest would be victorious, evidently this tactic caused
