Caesar was offered the crown three times but he refused it. Cassius did not want Caesar to be king and the only way he could get rid of him is by using Brutus. Cassius plan is to trick Brutus into killing Caesar “Brutus and Caesar: what should be in that Caesar?/Why should that name be sounded more than yours?/ Write them together, yours is as fair a name”(I ii 142-145). To paraphrase, Cassius is saying that Brutus is as qualified as Caesar to be King. The statement Cassius makes leads Brutus to question himself and to start thinking that Caesar is not the right one for Rome. Moreover, Cassius starts implying that Caesar could destroy Rome by becoming a dictator that leads to the reasoning of killing Caesar. Brutus tells Cassius that he needs time to think and process the information before betraying his best friend. Cassius then came up with a plan that he thinks will make Brutus join him “I will this night/ In several hands, in at this window, / As if they came from several citizens,/ Writings, all tending to the great opinion”(I ii 315-317). In other words, Cassius wrote fake letters from different citizens saying that Caesar is a danger to Rome. Brutus based on the fake letters made the decision of executing Caesar.
