Every short story in Spider Woman’s Web was about women’s power, however, these two short stories stood out because of their deep meanings, “Spider Woman’s Web” and “White Star Woman and Great Star Man”. The theme of power was used completely differently in these short stories. Unlike the slave owners who had great power upon their slaves in the narratives of Harriet Jacobs and Frederick Douglass, the characters in Spider Woman’s Web used their power differently. Instead of using the power to satisfy themselves, the characters use their power to obtain happiness and for themselves and for the people around them. The story also emphasized the woman’s power when she can say, “This is what I need,” and that her needs can be fulfilled. When the powers of men and women combined, all humankind benefited. When the White Star Woman asked the Great Star Man to fulfill her orders, the Great Star Man didn’t use his power to force her to marry him. Instead, he respected her as his future companion and performed what she wished. The While Star Woman also didn’t overuse her power and asked the Great Man Star to carry out preposterous tasks. She asked him to prepare for the birth of their future child. After they married, the Great Man Star and the White Star Woman shared the same power for the sake of human
