Mutation is a genetic phenomenon that occurs in all organisms. It can either have a negative, positive or no effect at all. Mutations that have negative effects are more of a concern by many biologists around the world, as they cause devastation on an organism’s life. Leptin is a hormone in mammals that is made by the OB protein that has many responsibilities such as the control of food intake. A mutation to the OB protein can have profound negative effects on a mammal’s physiology, and fertility. When leptin levels decrease, energy expenditure also decreases.
