The start of the journey began when Salva was an eleven year old boy. Forced out of school by war in the Dinka tribe.Having to travel many miles with other boys like him. Salva faces many challenges in his journey with cruel circumstances. Salva, The main character in Linda Sue Park’s A Long Walk to Water, is able to survive as he’s growing up, and is able to overcome his challenges by modeling three key words; hard work, perseverance, and friendship.
