The story starts off when Bryan was a 23-year-old Harvard Law student going a visit a prison in Jackson, Georgia to tell an inmate on death row, Henry, that he will not be executed within the next year. As the guard takes Henry away he breaks out into song, overjoyed with the news Bryan just gave him. After meeting Henry, Bryan became devoted to helping inmates facing capital punishment. He had also dealt with the hardships that come with being a minority in this country. After dealing with multiple misconduct altercations with the police, he decided that he is going to dedicate his life to helping the black and poor fight against this criminal justice system.
