How Has German Nationalism Helped World War I?

If you were called to war by our government, would you go? Would you stay? Or would you protest? In present day, many people would refuse the request, or even protest against war, but in World War I, people crammed in to join, to fight for what is "right". All over Europe, and eventually America, hundreds of people were drafted in the name of their counties, because of their love for their countries, and the word to sum up their love would be Nationalism. The Nationalism for their countries, and their hate toward others fueled the war, and three aiding factors were Germany's pride, Serbia's humiliation, and Austria-Hungary's disorganization.

Even though their nationalism was not directly influenced to war, they struggled to keep both their country together, and to stay alive, which is what nationalism sparked for hostility between them. In the text, "Stirring times in Austria", it states that "All conversation is political; every man is a battery, with brushes over-worn, and gives out blue sparks when you set him going on the common topic." That shows the hostility between the peoples of Austria-Hungary. Another text, named "The Bosnian Crisis of 1908-1909" states that "Austria-Hungary, in reply, did not flatly reject the Russian Proposal, but suggested that the advantages for Serbia and Montenegro should be economic only. While the discussion was in progress the Austro-Hungarian Government was endeavoring to prevent the calling of the proposed conference by settling its controversy with Turkey. Such a settlement was arranged in principle of January 12, 1909. After that Austria-Hungary claimed that there was no longer any occasion for a meeting of a conference." That shows the fear that Austria-Hungary over breaking its borders, which would of killed its Nationalism, and would of broke the country up sooner.
