Short response #1
There are many differences with the accounts of Joseph in the Old Testament and the Qur’an stories. In the old testament (Genesis 37:2) Joseph is seventeen and is favored by his father Jacob and created coat of many colours(v.3). It is said that his brothers hated him for this. In the Qur’an Joseph and his brother Benjamin are both highly favored by their father Jacob. The other brothers think their father is being unfair because he does not favor them as much. According to the Qur’an, it is said that Joseph should be slayed or sent to the foreign land so that the favor of their father will be given to them. But in the Old Testament the brothers conspire to kill him and put him in a pit and say some evil beast has devoured him (v. 20). In the Qur’an the brother take Joseph out to play but drops him into the bottom of a well. In the Old Testament they strip him of his coat and cast him into the pit which had no water in it (v.23-24). Also in the Old Testament the brothers take his coat and dip it into goat blood but in the Qur’an it is said to be false blood. There was a big difference within the two stories when the brothers sold Joseph. In the Qur’an it mentioned he was sold for only a few dirhams meaning he was dirt and therefore a cheap price. But in the Old Testament Joseph was sold for 20 pieces of silver. In the Old Testament Joseph is bought by the captain of the guard pharaoh, Potiphar. In Qur’an it is said
