On 1606 some men from england sailed to what is now modern virginia and founded jamestown. Jamestown was picked for several reasons. The main reason was its location on grounds of it being surrounded on three sides by water. This was it important because it would be efficient for trade but also it would be defensible from the spanish. Another reason why the area was picked is the fertility of the ground which was good for tobacco. The colony was led by Edward Winfield and his council which had Bartholomew Gosnold, Christopher Newport, John Martin, John Ratcliffe, George Kendall, and John Smith. Two years later Dutch sailors crossed the atlantic and formed albany and later new york. The intolerable acts closed the boston harbor from trade until the ruined tea was repaid for also it made a law saying that british soldiers and colonials would be taken back to britain for trial which made it that the british were immune from punishment but the americans were guaranteed it.
