To remain globally competitive cities are often required to innovate solutions to make their cities a more desirable place to live. Infrastructure is an important part of that process. Infrastructure is the basic physical and organizational structures and facilities needed for a city to operate. Electricity for example is an integral to making a city run. Electricity is one of the few resources that can be generated in a several ways. Almost all electrical power on Earth is generated with a turbine of some type. Turbines are commonly driven by wind, water, steam or burning gas. The turbine drives an electric generator.
In recent technology some engineers have come up with a way to harvest the energy through the use of speed bumps. Speed bumps, usually used to keep neighborhoods safe, can also be used to supplement electricity to the same neighborhoods. These Electricity bumps or E-Bumps can be utilized to power things like traffic lights, freeway lights, or even to send it to a power grid to be used by homes and business in the community. The E-Bump technology would gather up the kinetic energy that's wasted when the vehicle goes over the speed bump and convert it to useable energy. By using the wasted kinetic energy potential from cars E-Bumps can be considered a viable source …show more content…
Houston is very populated city, and has a high amount of traffic, especially in the downtown district. Placement in high traffic areas would get drivers to go from an average speed of 35 mph to a slowing speed over the E-Bumps. Energy would then be produced to power things like traffic lights, local business, or feed back into the power grid. The recommended areas where E-Bumps would be implemented in areas, such as downtown Houston, where not only would it get drivers to drive more cautiously, but it will supplement the city's power grid in an environmentally friendly
