o I found this passage to be interesting because it is a repeated pattern that can be found all throughout Proust’s writing. After reading Swann’s Way, I am able to see the parallels between Proust’s philosophy of writing and the text we have read in class. The entirety of Proust’s piece follows this pattern of straying from the actual subject to other related subjects. It provides timelessness to the piece because the transitions flow from one subject to another, with no clear direction or aim in which they are going. I believe this was a very effective strategy by Proust because I often found myself lost in the transitions to the point at where I didn’t know where the speaker was going and it felt almost never ending. This pattern mimics the effect of time mutating memory, which is Proust’s absolute goal through his writing. o This sentence seems so simple, but for some reason, I got stuck at this point for a few minutes as I wrestled the idea of it in my own mind while I was reading the passage. Although there was no direct connection with Proust in this sentence, it was one that seemed very significant to me personally and was the reason I noted it down. Up until this point I had believed that there was no audience for the speaker as it seemed that he was simply describing the setting and nature of the forest. With the exclamation point, it provides the “turn” in the poem and shows that he seems to be addressing an audience very directly. This would change the meaning of the poem because it transfers what seems to be a simple poem describing a scene of nature into more of a conversation poem. The simple turn at the end makes it seem more similar to the type of poetry we see from Coleridge which seems to be more
