Optomisim is crucial in human nature; it allows humans to feel as if they belong even if everyone opposes it. Throughout the story, Firoozeh is forced to see the brighter side of the many obstacles ahead of her just like most immigrants would when coming to a new country; an example of this would be when joining a new class and being “the new kid.” When seen as a new student, the teacher tries to involve Firoozeh and her mother in the school lesson, which turns more into Firoozeh feeling awkward since all eyes were on her: “Now all the students stared at us …. Because we were stupid” (Dumas 6). Although the idea of trying to allow Firoozeh to feel connected to the class was a good one, it only led to embarrassment, but this allows her to not want to feel this way and be more positive towards learning and working hard to feel comfortable. Firoozeh knows that these times of harrsement are going to be over and she walks with her head high and a positive outlook. The largest problem for immigrants is to feel positive towards a negative experience, but, with optimism, they will feel like they can overcome any
