I am a first year Master's student at the Graduate Institute in International Affairs and will complete my degree in June 2019. I am writing to apply for a full-time internship in Human Rights Watch, specifically in the UN Advocacy Division. The focus and goals of the advocacy team are congruous with my beliefs as to how to address human rights issues and ultimately succeed in changing the human rights-related policies and practices of United Nations, and the organisation offers a myriad of opportunities to interact with other international organisations and foreign and domestic government officials. I would be honoured to become a part of the HRW’s mission using my knowledge and skills to support the advocacy activities and goals.

Andrew's Refugee Services in Cairo. My clients were from some of the most insecure conflict areas of the world, areas that are torn by regional, religious, tribal, and ethnic differences. In order to better represent their claims with the UNHCR, I conducted client interviews, evaluated their files, and researched and composed in-depth analyses on conflict zones including Darfur, South Sudan and the Al-Shabab controlled territory in Somalia. One of the accomplishments I am most proud of was collaborating with the psychosocial and education staff and operational partners to provide long-term support for my clients. This experience has furthered my communication skills, honed my critical thinking, improved my research and analysis skills, and lent me a global, open-minded perspective.
