1.1 - Describe current policy and guidance related to supporting individuals with stroke When supporting individuals who have suffered from a stroke, there are current policies and guidelines to follow. Some of which are: • Your workplace policy and procedure around stroke care if you have one. • Mental Capacity Act 2005 • Human Rights Act 1998 • Equality Care Act 2010 • Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 • Care Act 2014 My workplace also has their own policy for Care Of Stroke. This policy states: • If a resident appears to be suffering from a stroke, staff on shift should call for an ambulance immediately. The Cerebellum – this is the back of the brain. The Brainstem – this is the base of the brain. The effects of a stroke in the Cerebrum depend on which side it occurs. The potential physical effects or effects on sensory ability on the right side are: • Left side weakness or paralysis or sensory loss i.e. sense of touch. Vision problems, including loss of the left field vision in both eyes. Problems with depth perception or direction such as up or down. • Lack of concentration The potential physical effects or effect on sensory ability in the left side are: • Right side weakness or paralysis or sensory loss, which can include sense of touch. Developing problems with speech or understanding language. An impaired ability to write, read or learn new information. The potential physical or sensory effects on the Cerebellum are: • Mobility – it can affect your ability to walk. It can lead to trouble with co-ordination. Dizziness. The potential physical effects or effects on sensory ability in the brainstem are: balance or coordination problems. Weakness or paralysis of the brain. Troubles with chewing, swallowing or speaking. Vision changes. 2.4 - Analyse the
