It is very clear from the first chapter of the book that Huckleberry Finn is a rebel. He describes in detail his past adventures with Tom Sawyer and the money that he now has saved from it. The "nonconformist" that Emerson describes is immediately present, "Then I slipped down to the ground and crawled in amongst the trees, and sure enough there was Tom Sawyer waiting for me."
