We appreciate your foundation taking an interest in patient care within the New York State Hudson Valley. Many people think of New York State as big city congested with people, cars and large buildings. But what many people do not assimilate with New York State is the vast rolling mountains with camp sites, hiking trails, lakes and an overwhelming acreage of parkland. Unfortunately, more often than one can imagine, hiking, winter sports, and various others outdoor events brings with it injury. It is for this reason, we are participating in this grant submission. However, due to the great outdoors and easy access, each season brings hundreds of thousands of tourists to our area. The roads are congested and a half hour ride on the NYS thruway or Taconic Parkway can easily become a three or four hour ride. After collaborating with the local hospitals, Westchester Medical Center is the only level I trauma center in the area, and the only pediatric trauma center, other than traveling to New York City. Having these aircrafts operational within the Hudson Valley and Catskill regions, we will be able to address the need of a rapid response to a patient, and be able to lift them safely to the appropriate care facility within the most expeditious time. Even if the closes facility happens to be Albany Medical Center 89 miles away. By vehicle this transport would most certainly be one hour and 20 minutes, but by helicopter, the trip is a mere 20 to 30 minutes. The utilization of these aircrafts will also put our agency in line with the local disaster medical assistance teams, subsidiary of the National Disaster Medical System, and mutual aid programs within the tri-state areas of New York, New Jersey and
