Huey P. Long Poverty

For many years, people of different backgrounds have attempted to find a solution that would end the conflict of wealth and poverty has displaced peace. Huey P. Long is one of those persons. In “Every Man a King” Long presents a solution that would benefit every individual not matter his/her economic status: “... We propose to limit the wealth of big men in the country… we propose to limit poverty that we will allow to be inflicted upon any men’s family.” (Long, para. 22). In the eyes of Long, if rich men have a fortune already, why not give a part of that wealth to people who in fact need it? It would provide them basic necessities --home, car, radio, education, food. Of course this is a generous solution, however, the impact that this would have on the lives of unfortunate people in the long term is not beneficial for their development and for the development of the nation.

Of course the hard work needs to be recompensed and as every human, they need to rest in order to adequately perform in their jobs since the activities can cause fatigue. However, all excess is bad and there should be a limit for work and for rest. In order to achieve goals it is essential to have a desire for it and to work hard, but if Long takes those mores away from American culture then they would never gain wealth.
