William Golding’s Lord of the Flies serves as a study of human nature. His young characters portray the desire for power and the horrors of evil that are present inside human beings. In the novel, a plane carrying a group of British schoolboys is shot down over the pacific during World War II. During these times, many countries in the world were going through some of the bloodiest battles that they would would ever see. William Golding saw the horrific things that people had to do to each other when they found themselves in desperate situations. We can see for ourselves that extreme situations bring out extreme reactions.
