The 34th Annual Hunters Roundup was held at the Uvalde County Fairplex and Stardust Pavilion on Friday, November 6, 2015. The indoor/outdoor event took place from 1700-2400 hours with vendors and businesses in the fields of hunting, farming, and ranching from Uvalde and surrounding area. The event also featured live music and a wild game dinner.
Supervisory CBP Officer Eric Galarza along with CBP Officers Jorge Hernandez and Evelina Torres from the Eagle Pass Port of Entry attended the event as recruiters on behalf of the Laredo Field Office. Approximately 30 people arrived and talked to recruiters at the CBP-OFO and US Border Patrol table during the event; however, nearly half were retired from various jobs such as law enforcement, teaching, and Union Pacific. …show more content…
The candidates were given briefings on the duties, benefits, and job announcements for the positions of CBP Officers. CBPOs Torres and Hernandez also briefed the candidates on the time and training at the Field Operations Academy since they graduated from the academy approximately 5 months ago. Of the three people that signed the CBP recruitment sign-in sheet, 1 was a veteran currently employed with the Uvalde County Sheriff Department.
Since the Eagle Pass recruitment team was scheduled from 1400-2200, they wrapped up their portion of the event at 2100 hours. CBP-OFO had more candidates interested and sign up for potential employment than they partners in green. Candidates who were local college students at Southwest Texas Junior College had already signed on to take the entrance exam; they were also advised of the upcoming event at the college within the next few weeks.
