Hunting Olivia was written by Karen Russell and good old neon which was written by David Foster Wallace contained many different themes. One of the main themes for both of them is the relationship between possession and loss. The two readings portray this theme in totally different ways. In Hunting Olivia this theme relates to them losing their sister and what possessions they have in remembrance of her. Good Old Neon was having to deal with losing his mind and only having the possession of negative thoughts that pushed him to commit suicide. Even though they are very different they still deal with the fact of death and what effects they have on people.
