The historical and disastrous event was Hurricane Katrina on August 29,2005. An event that never will be forgotten. The gulf coast hurricane was supposed to a category three on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale with hundred and forty winds per hour. Eighty percent of Louisiana levees breached led to catastrophic flooding in the city of New Orleans. Estimated that Hurricane Katrina called more than fifty billion in damages. I think it is important to give remembrance to the thousands of people who lost their loved ones, killed, and those who are still not found. I feel as though some people still do not have the closure that they long for ten years later. In honor of the victims on that fateful day, their names is etched in the walls of the memorial monument erected on ground zero. A monument different than the standard statue like Andrew Jackson statue in Jackson Square. The monument will engraved names of the victims in a circle from A to B. The medium/media would be Stone, Tile, and Granite would be used to assemble the monument because it is an abundant, low-cost commodity in crushed stone prepared for construction projects. Something water resistance, heatproof, and marble are easy to carve. The primary color would be blue like a Louisiana state flag and the victims’ names in white writing.
The location of the Hurricane Katrina Remembrance Monument would be in New Orleans East. Precisely, in Resthaven Memorial Park 20 feet away in the center of the Garden of the Christus 10400 Old Gentilly Rd. According to Resthaven Memorial, the Garden of the Christus has a nine-foot-tall statue of Jesus in the center looking upon the garden. The monument will reside under Jesus
