5.1 Indicative Plans
Due to the statements mentioned above, the Hurst Street site can have a clear expectation of converting into a residential-led site with mixed-use spaces as a both transport nodal and plural culture space. That is to say, the entire site would be filled with multiple types of commercial spaces, new residents (or immigrants) and parking spaces to meet the fundamental conditions of regional re-prosperity. Simultaneously, it will also conserve a large part of buildings and adds new residential spaces to the top of existing buildings. Also, in order to well integrate into the adjacent buildings, these buildings may appropriately limit between 4 and 8 storeys. (see Figure 13)

Because it possesses a strong economic connectivity between local shops (near Hurst street and Bromsgrove street) and shopping mall (in the city centre) and a nodal section of transport for accommodating mass populations, the complex can be separated and sorted into commercial spaces, residential spaces and an independent hotel.
The hotel, 8-storey heights, has about one-third of the overall block, and it adjoins to Wholesale Markets, main station as well as shopping centre (Bullring), so it can appeal to a large number of passengers and visitors.
The other two-thirds of total areas are the stacked use. It can vertically be sorted into leisure (or nightlife), commercial and residential spaces. The leisure space, on the ground floor, will be connected to bars or Gay Village on the opposite of Hurst street. The commercial space, between second and fourth floors, can meet needs of new population increase like a dentist, gym and so on. The two spaces also can connect with the adjacent hotel through footbridges to enrich their spatial usage and benefits increased. Finally, in order to reduce the noise pollution, the residential space will be put above fifth floor about 4 storeys; moreover, the residents will consist of single people as similar as the mixed-use building on opposite of Claybrook …show more content…
The existing buildings, Jubilee Art Gallery and independent LGBTQ pubs, will appropriately be retained and refurbished to enhance the significant contemporary cultural character. This block also has approximately 6 to 8 storeys to match local developments. (see Figure 14)
Furthermore, on the corner of Skinner lane and Pershore street, the mixed-use building, a two-storey parking lot and the third to eighth floor for the residential space, will be established in the open space. With supporting the sustainable development in Birmingham, this parking lot will include bicycle parking zone, and those will be provided to new local residents.
Finally, single people and families have different lifestyles (the former people are possible to have some nightlife or parties; however, most of the latter people prefer quiet lives), so the residential apartments between two sides of Sherlock street will be for families as much as possible.
