The Hutterite and Amish cultures share many cultural traits and customs, causing outsiders to often overlook their differences in housing, location, technology, and religious services. The media often regards the customs of the two communities as outdated, due to their strong reliance on agriculture and rejection of modern technology. However, both the Hutterites and the Amish use a limited amount of technology for absolute necessities. Unlike the Amish, the Hutterites employ modern agricultural technology to maximize their efficiency as a colony. Furthermore, the Amish live in a familial household, in the Midwest and areas of southern Canada, while the Hutterites live communally, in the eastern United States. As different denominations of
