II. “I Hear America Singing” is a poem that brilliantly illustrates the diversity of America by listing different workers. Whitman celebrates the middle class that makes America an amazing continent to live in.

These lines make the reader picture images of different workers and what their roles of the occupation include. The imagery filled lines provide a better idea from the first line of the poem “I hear America Singing, the varied carols I hear.”
3. This is important because imagery is what makes the readers personally connect to the poem and leaves an everlasting image in the reader’s mind.
B. The theme in a poem is a statement about the lesson that could be learned from the poem. The main theme in this poem is to show how the people of America are independent, but united under the nation of America.
1. After listing all the workers, Whitman concludes in his poem “Each singing what belongs to him or her and none else, / Singing with open mouths their strong melodious songs.” (14,17).
2. This shows that workers take pride in their job which belongs only to them and they all unite together to form a beautiful
