The short story “I’ve Got Gloria” takes place in Wyoming,USA. This was implied in the story when Scott mentioned he wanted to go hiking in Yellowstone because the Yellowstone National Park is located in Wyoming.
There are multiple locations in Wyoming but mostly in Scott’s house,the telephone booth and his dads car.
It takes place in the modern era. In fact, it was probably around the start of June because Scott talked about having to go to summer school and not being able to go hiking in Yellowstone. This indicates school just ended, and in the state of Wyoming they finish school at the end of May.Wyoming is the 10th largest state

As previously mentioned the main topic of the story was personal accountability. The setting truly helped depict this topic because when Scott was in a comfortable place like his home he was untroubled when making threats to Mrs.Whitman, and not taking any responsibility for flunking math. However, when he moved to an unfamiliar place like outside in his dad car he got scared and started owning up to his mistakes. This can be proven when Scott said “ I was wrong. It was petty. The setting caused a tone of anger because the story took place in Wyoming, USA which is near Yellowstone and Scott was angry at Mrs.Whitman cause he couldn't go to Yellowstone for hiking. However, if he didn't live Wyoming he probably wouldn't have planned to go hiking in Yellowstone so he wouldn't angry at Mrs.Whitman. Additionally, the telephone booth foreshadowed a changed in Scott mindset because when he was calling from home he was angry and was threatening Mrs.Whitman.
