Personal Statement
I am Apurva Jakhanwal, a second-year Computer Science student at the University of California, Irvine. I lived in India my entire life before coming to the University of California, Irvine. The rich culture and diversity offered me a great experience filled with values and principles. I nurtured as a person by inculcating discipline, dedication, hard work, focus, and all other skills which have helped me grow as a student. I chose to attend the University of California, Irvine after my high school because of its location in the Orange County area which thrives with successful companies, diverse culture and student population, and its prestige. My short-term goals include focusing on strengthening my skills in the field of web development, cognitive technologies, augmented reality and implementation of blockchain. I want to be able to get acquainted with these fields of technology so that I can discover and innovate new technologies to solve problems and make things easier. I have begun working towards achieving my short-term goals by participating in various activities at UCI which I will talk about shortly. I was also recently selected by the Multidisciplinary Design Program(MDP) for a project named PMUI which stands for a Power Manager User Interface to Promote Energy Efficiency in Desktop Computers. I learned that the intended energy savings by power management settings in operating systems are not being understood by desktop users. Therefore, this project attempts to redesign the current PMUI by incorporating low-power modes, human-computer interaction, feedback, reminders, and rewards for the users. I am a part of the web development team, which calls for familiarity with Electron, JavaScript,
