Ida B. Wells
Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Ida B. Wells and I are honored to be standing here today giving my speech on my life. I was born into slavery during the Civil War. I grew up in Holly Springs, Mississippi with my parents, Elizabeth and James Wells. I was only 16 when both my parents and my baby brother passed away due to yellow fever breakouts. I attended Rust College to receive early education, but sadly I was forced to drop out. I convinced a nearby school administrator that I was 18 and got a job as a teacher to take care of my siblings.
