Ida Mae, an eleven year-old mixed African American Caucasian female approached me in the school clinic complaining of having an asthma attack due to the wind outside and she also informed me that her medication is finished. Upon reviewing her school medical from, I observed a diagnosis of asthma at the age of four years old and inhaler medication. As a nurse, to provide the best care for Ida, I will reassess her breath sounds for wheezing, chest tightness, peak flow, oxygen saturation and her vital signs, breathing pattern, if she has a cold or has been exposed to any other allergens beside the wind and dust . At this point Ida informed me that she did not take her inhaler because it is finished, I would believe her because she is been managing her asthma for seven years and she is fully aware of her symptoms and trigger factors. …show more content…
If she has extra inhaler, I would give her the treatment and monitor closely to make sure she is better. If she does not have medication, depends on the severity of the symptoms, I will either call her parent or call rescue to transfer her to the nearest hospital. I would believe her story because she has been diagnosed with the disease for seven years and has been taking her medication and she is also aware of her asthma attack and the trigger factors. If Ada was living in a new apartment complex, she would have fewer asthma attacks due to the fact there will not be any mold, cockroach, and dust in her environments.
