During the sixteen century in August of 1539, Ignatius de Loyola who was a Spanish priest and soldier founded the Jesuit movement. The original purpose of this order was to offer support to the sick and to the Roman Catholic Church. By the time that its founder Ignatius de Loyola died in 1566, the order had already increased enormously to the point that from sixteen members, it had approximately a thousand members. Then eventually, its purpose becomes to propagate the Catholic faith by any means in places such as Asia. In order to reach their purpose of propagating Christianity in Asia during the sixteen century, the Jesuits implemented various strategies and techniques, which resulted on conversion efforts that could be analyzed by their assumptions, approaches, and results. It all began when the Society of Jesus received request from the king of Portugal whose name was Joao III. The request was for Jesuits to work in the Portuguese domains established in the Asian continent. For the mission, Ignatius de Loyola chose two companions who where Simao Rodrigues and Nicolas Bobadilla. Bobadilla was not able to go to the mission because he fell ill, and Francis Xavier who was in Rome at that moment replaced him instead. Xavier worked as a missionary in Asia for 10 years. He approached the inhabitants by sharing the world of God, and through religious rituals such as baptism and catechism. His approach took place in southern India, the western coast of the Malay Peninsula, the Moluccas and Japan. He decided he wanted to preach the Christian message of God in China when he first heard about the country while being in Japan.
