Ever since I was a young boy the one thing that has kept me up at night the most throughout my life is the uncertainty of my families’ future in the United States. Both of my parents are illegal immigrants that came into the country from Mexico looking for a better life and a better place to start a family. They knew that the United States could offer them more fulfilling jobs and that their children could grow in a community filled with more opportunities and activities. In the advent of the new Trump Administration, the reality that at any moment my parents and I may be stripped away from one another is terrifying. What keeps me up at night is knowing that there are families getting ripped apart across the country which was initially founded by immigrants themselves. Already, I know of family members and friends who had to return to Mexico before being split apart. It saddens me to know that every day a family must go through that hardship, and what saddens me the most is knowing it could happen to my family any given day as well. I believe that there should be some system or procedure in place to help maintain families united despite their legal citizenship status. I understand that there is a problem with immigrants entering the United States, but I see no logical explanation as to why we should focus on those that are already here and risk splitting apart families which make up the nucleus of the American community. I hope that in the future there may be peace among Mexican immigrants and that the stigma that they take jobs and are a nuisance in communities may fade
