The two excerpts, “A Quilt of a Country” and “The Immigrant Contribution,” are similar in some ways yet also quite different. The primary idea for both is that America is a nation built on improbable diversity. Both excerpts support this idea, in the writer's tone and use of language. Kennedy states “Every ethnic minority, in seeking their own freedom, helped strengthen the fabric of American liberty.
