During the Progressive Era there was a dramatic increase of immigrants that flooded the United States. Over fifteen million immigrates moved over to the United States between 1900 and 1915. The United States had a challenging time accepting these immigrates. The cities became over crowed and many immigrants could not find a job. The cities only offered so many jobs, yet there was an over flood of individuals. Soon enough, reformers recognized social settlement in non-wealthy societies to help with the unfortunate immigrates. The goals of these social settlements were to close the gap between the social classes and solve the problems within the society regarding money and race.
