In the novel by Neil Gaiman, American Gods, the main theme revolves around immigration and how ever since they brought their beliefs with them to the new world, the old gods have being living among them. As long as their believers keep worshipping them, the gods will remain strong and even get stronger. After being locked up in jail and just days before his release, he finds out that his wife had just been in a tragic car accident and died at impact. Not knowing what to do he accepts a job with a man by the name of wednesday, but little does he know that this is the beginning of a journey full of adventure throughout the whole country. He begins this Journey not knowing anything about the gods and by the end he finds out he himself is a god.
